I also have an apple watch and when I turned of bluetooth on my phone, the apple symbol came on my phone for a while as if to say, why did you turn off bluetooth on the phone. Something quite small can easily prevent a charging cable from fitting properly into the iPhone, so the very first thing you should do is check the charging port on the iPhone and look for any crud or build-up in there

I dropped iphone 6s in the toilet and the speaker stopped working so I cleaned the jack with 7 q-tips then blowdried it a little and put in a bag of rice overnight. Also once that is done put the iPhone on a paper towel or a extremely dry towel and pat down the iPhone to remove any wetness that still may be lingering

I can see how pressing the phone could help on some phones, but it this case the little connector strip needed to be realigned since no amount of pressing would have helped it make contact. I changed it to plain iPhone, sound was back! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
