The establishment of and adherence to the Church of England, and the universal prevalence of African slavery, evolved a social life resembling that of the Virginian plantation rather than of the Puritan farm

Williams then moved to Plymouth, where he became an assistant minister, acceptable to the church and state, for about two years Williams then returned to Salem and became pastor of the same congregation where he had been assistant
